Novel review:
I love Jeffrey Archer’s books and have read several of them. This was written decades ago and can still compete with the more sophisticated books of the present.
Marc Andrews is on his own to find out who wants the president dead. Time is running out as he tries to eliminate the suspects. The suspense builds as the danger closes in on him.
For conspiracy theorists, this is a book you will want to read. I always figure, it is someone close to you who poses the biggest threat, because you believe and trust them. They can look you in the eye as they lie and plot against you. Such is the case here. Be sure to look to your right, left, front and back as you turn the pages. You never know where the strike will come from.
I still think of the Kennedy assassination and whether or not there was a government conspiracy that brought him down. Why would that be so impossible to believe? Our government is no less greedy and corrupt than any third world country. How far would someone go to achieve their goal? Look around at present day events and you may find your answer.
The characters were a bit unbelievable, but Archer achieved what most authors dream about: writing a page-turner. The story and suspense flowed naturally through every page, until I'd finished the book and hardly realized it. Despite its shortcomings, I enjoyed the experience of reading it.
As a student, we should always think out of the box. Halt Tony, who is Marc Andrews' Director knew to solve the puzzle about the assassination of the president. Although there was a bit conflict between them during the climax, but they manage to work together to solve the mysterious crime. We can use them as our role model in our life in order to enhance our mentality and perform in our examinations. Students nowadays have to think out of the box as it was the requirement from the government recently.
In addition, I admire Marc Andrews due to his determination in solving the crime. Although he had lost his boss and his mate during their investigation, but he didn't give up and find every possibility about the crime. Even though he fall in love with Dr. Elizabeth Dexter, whom one of the suspect's daughter, he manage to find the answers for every question without forgetting his work. As a student, we should be determined in our studies so that we can achieve our goals and dreams in our life.
Overall, i would recommend this novel to students. This is a very good novel, just a little different from some of Archer's other works. It's probably the best place to start before tackling some of Archer's more epic works.
