VOCABULARY


CRINGE (VERB)
DEFINITION:
To move away from something because you are frightened; to feel embarrassed.
EXAMPLE:
-  The dog cringed in terror when the men raise his arm.
-      The awful family photographs make me cringe.

FUMBLE (VERB)
DEFINITION:
To try to find or take hold of something with your hands in nervous or careless way.
EXAMPLE:
-      ‘It must be here somewhere’, she said, fumbling in her pocket for her key.

EXASPERATE (VERB)
DEFINITION:
To make somebody angry; to annoy somebody very much.
EXAMPLE:
-  This late of progress exasperate me.
-      She was became exasperated with all the questions.

DISCRETION (NOUN)
DEFINITION:
The freedom and power to make decisions by yourself; care in what you say and do so as not to cause embarrassment or difficulty for somebody.
EXAMPLE:
-      You must use your discretion to decide what is best.
-      This is confidential but I know I can rely on your discretion.

SURVEILLANCE (NOUN)
DEFINITION:
The careful watching of somebody who may have done something wrong.
EXAMPLE:
-      The building is protected by surveillance cameras.
