VOCABULARY

INTELLIGIBLE (adjective)
Definition: 
(of speech and writing) clear enough to be understood:
Example:
She was so upset when she spoke that she was hardly intelligible.

DISPARAGE (verb)
Definition: 
to criticize someone or something in a way that shows you do not respect or value him, her, or it:
Example:
The actor's work for charity has recently been disparaged in the press as an attempt to get publicity.

IGNOMINIOUS (adjective)
Definition: 
(especially of events or behavior) embarrassing because of being a complete failure:
Example:
It was an ignominious defeat us as we lost to the beginner team.

ANACHRONISM (noun)
Definition:
a person, thing, or idea that exists out of its time in history, especially one that happened or existed later than the period being shown, discussed, etc.:
Example:
For some people, marriage is an anachronism from the days when women needed to be protected.

PREEMINENT (adjective)
Definition:
more important or powerful than all others.
Example:
He was the preeminent scientist of his day.
