VOCABULARY

Lummox (noun)
Definition:
a stupid or awkward person.
Example:
Be careful, you big lummox, you just stamped on my foot!

Ostentatious (adjective)
Definition:
too obviously showing your money, possessions, or power, in an attempt to make other people notice and admire you.
Example:
They criticized the ostentatious lifestyle of their leaders.


Precocious (adjective)
Definition:
(especially of children) showing mental development or achievement much earlier than usual.
Example:
A precocious child, she went to university at the age of 15.

Sanction (verb)
Definition:
to formally give permission for something.
Example:
The government was reluctant to sanction intervention in the crisis.

Turpitude (noun)
Definition:
evil.
Example:
Acts/crimes of moral turpitude.
