VOCABULARY

Versatile (adjective)
Definition:
able to change easily from one activity to another or able to be used for many different purposes.
Example:
He's a very versatile young actor who's as happy in horror films as he is in TV comedies.

Metaphoric (adjective)
Definition:
a.Metaphorical language contains metaphors.
Example:
Her second novel is written in a very metaphoric style.

Definition:
b.not having real existence but representing some truth about a situation or other subject.
Example:
There is a danger that America's metaphoric "war on drugs" may turn into a bloody reality.

Norm (noun)
Definition:
an accepted standard or a way of behaving or doing things that most people agree with.
Example:
Europe's varied cultural, political and ethical norms.

Intrinsic (adjective)
Definition:
being an extremely important and basic characteristic of a person or thing.
Example:
Maths is an intrinsic part of the school curriculum.

Precedent (noun)
Definition:
a.an action, situation, or decision that has already happened and can be used as a reason why a similar action or decision should be performed or taken.
Example:
There are several precedents for promoting people who don't have formal qualifications.

Definition:
b.the way that something has been done in the past that therefore shows that it is the correct way.
Example:
Would it be breaking with precedent for the bride to make a speech?
