VOCABULARY



Alacrity (noun)
Definition:
speed and eagerness.
Example:
She accepted the money with alacrity.

Burgeon (verb)
Definition:
to develop or grow quickly.
Example:
Love burgeoned between them.

Deleterious (adjective)
Definition:
harmful.
Example:
These drugs have a proven deleterious effect on the nervous system.

Euphemism (noun)
Definition:
a word or phrase used to avoid saying an unpleasant or offensive word.
Example:
"Senior citizen" is a euphemism for "old person".

Hypocritical (adjective)
Definition:
saying that you have particular moral beliefs but behaving in a way that shows these are not sincere.
Example:
Their accusations of corruption are hypocritical - they have been just as corrupt themselves.
