VOCABULARY 




Palpable (adjective)
Definition:
so obvious that it can easily be seen or known, or (of a feeling) so strong that it seems as if it can be touched or physically felt.
Example:
A palpable effect.

Easel (noun)
Definition:
a wooden frame, usually with legs, that holds a picture, especially one that an artist is painting or drawing.

Jostled (verb)
Definition:
to knock or push roughly against someone in order to move past them or get more space when you are in a crowd of people.
Example:
As we came into the arena, we were jostled by fans pushing their way towards the stage.

Servile (adjective)
Definition:
too eager to serve and please someone else in a way that shows you do not have much respect for yourself.
Example:
As a waiter you want to be pleasant to people without appearing totally servile.

Usurp (verb)
Definition:
to take control of a position of power, especially without having the right to.
Example:
The powers of local councils are being usurped by central government.
